It is VERY important that HIV patients take these drugs exactly as prescribed.
DO NOT SKIP DOSES. Even skipping one dose of HIV medication can be detrimental to the outcome of therapy. Call your pharmacist 2 or 3 days in advance for refills. Do not wait until the last minute.
Practice Safe-Sex. Recent studies demonstrate that even though your viral load may be so low that it is undetectable, you can still transmit the HIV virus via bodily fluids such as semen or vaginal secretions. It is very important that you practice safe-sex if you are HIV positive regardless of whether you are taking these medicines.
There is Hope. HIV is a chronic disease just like diabetes, hypertension or asthma. Just like other chronic conditions, HIV is highly treatable. In fact, HIV is less deadly than heart failure or many cancers. There are millions of HIV positive people working, raising families, spending time with friends and family; enjoying life.
The key to HIV treatment is early detection and sticking to the regimen of medicines that your doctor has prescribed. One day there will be a cure. We have made remarkable progress fighting HIV. New medications are coming out all the time. HIV is not the death-sentence it was 10 or 15 years ago.
If you are HIV positive make sure that you get adequate sleep, nourishment and exercise. Take your meds religiously.
The information in this database has been harvested from AIDSINFONYC.org, HIV InSite, and Rx List and put into a more user-friendly interface. The drugs are listed alphabetically by brand name, since that is how most patients and practitioners know them.
